25: The Bird

Casablanca2

The Bird Restaurant

5 Jalan 3/62D
Medan Putra Business Centre
Bandar Menjalara, Kepong
Tel: 603-6277 1453

When I first stepped into the restaurant... Oh my lord. The music. The music! A far cry from my psycho metal, but from the days of my grandmother. I guess she must have been reliving old memories while we were there.

The Wall

Besides the music, the deco was baba-nonya styled, über rustic; but I liked it. Portraits of Elvis, Casablanca and singers from ages ago adorned the walls (not forgetting the little toy birds, hence the name of the place.).

The proprietor of the restaurant striked me as someone very familiar. It was until later I found out that he was Desmond Liew, a Malaysian actor!

Lets move on to the food, shall we?

Oh, a word of warning. Because of the lighting, I was trying out a shutter speed that was quite new to me. Hence, the blurness from failure to keep my hand steady (maybe some dosage Diazepam is in order?).

The food served in The Bird is a blend of Chinese, Nonya and even Western. Interesting mix, plenty of variety.

4 Heavenly Kings

4 Heavenly Kings.

4 kinds of vegetables (long beans, petai, four-angled beans and brinjal) cooked together.

What can I say? I love petai and brinjal, but I detest the rest. Abit too much chili oil though.

Basil Leaf Chicken

Basil Leaf Chicken.

Chicken lightly fried in a batter and served with plenty of basil.

This was pretty good. I love the hearty taste of basil.

Fried Fish in Butter Sauce

Fried Fish in Butter Sauce.

Deep fried fish served in butter sauce with dipping bread on the side.

This is the star of the night. A definite "must try" for all food lovers out there! The fish is fried and hot, and served in that very delicious butter sauce with curry leaves. Joy. You'll find yourself lapping up the sauce at the end of the night ;)

Fried Squid

Fried Squid.

Fried squid was pretty good. Served with the sweet/spicy dipping sauce. The batter for the squid made it pretty good.

King Toh Prawns

King Toh Prawns.

Prawns cooked in a sweet sauce.

Not bad. The sweet sauce caramelized, giving this blackish product. My only peeve was it was a bit too sweet.

Cendol

Cendol.

Dessert :) This cendol is pretty special. They actually boil everything in gula melaka beforehand, so there is no need for adding it later. They even added sago into the cendol. Fragrant and nice.

Overall, The Bird (all the gits who broke out in laughter or just chuckled, please leave the blog haha.) is a pretty good place for a bite. The crowd says so too. Come for the environment, stay for the food, vice versa, or whatever it is, be sure to pay a visit to The Bird one of these days.

Oh, while you're still here, why not vote for my aunt and her team's entry in the Star Drive For Food contest?
